Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)

While Krystal Hosting supports standard File Transfer Protocol (FTP) we are not overly delighted by it's inherently insecure nature. FTP sends your password over the internet to the server unencrypted. As you can imagine this isn't the greatest idea as a single compromised client computer or packet sniffer at any point from any client computer to the server could give someone access to the server. Therefore I can proudly recommend to you using FileZilla, an excellent open source SFTP client that solves this problem by encrypting sessions between a client and the server using your cpanel login and password, not a normal FTP account.

Why should I bother?

  • It costs nothing.
  • Implementation is quick and easy (less than 5 minutes)
  • The interface is the same as most other FTP clients, it won't be a chore to adjust.
  • I have provided full instructions, and will be providing full support (see below)
  • Finally, we are a community that share a number of resources, it is in the best interests of everyone that you do what you can to keep the server secure.
